Android 4.2.2 has been known since yesterday. Currently, however, only three devices are available: the Nexus 7, Nexus 10 and Galaxy Nexus. Nexus 4 and Nexus 7 3G have not yet been provided. Now Google has released the Android 4.2.2 source code, first information to flush changes into the network and devices with a custom recovery can now also be updated via WinZip file.
Compared to the predecessor version, Google has turned little on externalities. Much of the changes have obviously been made "under the hood", which requires some time to investigate. Here are the first finds:
Android 4.2.2 quick toggles
The QuickSettings were bumped. With a long press you can now turn Bluetooth and WLAN directly on or off - that is exactly different from that of the manufacturer UIs and Custom ROMs. It is even more inconsistent when one considers that the airplane mode is activated with only one tap and other tiles have no switch function at all.
Android 4.2.2 downloads seconds display
For downloads, such as apps from the Play Store, a Remaining Forecast is displayed in the notification.
The gallery is now to be equipped with faster animations and load faster.
There are new sounds - a new sound when a device is wirelessly charged, the acoustic low acoustic indication has been changed.
Furthermore, there is slightly increased security for ADB. A new computer connected via USB must first be confirmed in a dialog - this is only possible with the screen unlocked. Finally, there are reports of more reliable Bluetooth connections - but they are not yet confirmed.
Interestingly, Google has changed the recharge time on the description page of the Nexus 7 - from 8 to 10 hours. Whether this is related to Android 4.2.2 or detached from the update is not yet known.
Android 4.2.2 source code
Only a few hours after the first OTA updates came in, Google has also set the source code for Android 4.2.2 into the AOSP. This means that Custom ROMs can now be built on the basis of the new Android version - with first results in the form of CyanogenMod-Nightliy builds, we are likely to expect in the coming days.
Android 4.2.2 update via flashable ZIP file
The rollout of the Android 4.2.2 update has already begun, but so far mainly devices are supplied in North America. However, with a little bit of skill, some devices can already be equipped with the latest update, especially the Galaxy Nexus, the Nexus 10 and the Nexus 7 in the WLAN only version. Factory images have not been sighted yet, but here the update ZIP files, manually flashbar via CWM or TWRP Recovery:
Galaxy Nexus (only Takju version!) - If you own one of the more frequently Yakyu devices here, you can alternatively flip this complete ROM
Nexus 7 (Not for the 3G version!)
